Custom Roses by Diane
My Art
My time as an artist has been short compared to what I hope it will be. I began this journey as early as I can remember. My first memory was of cutting myself with scissors, while making paper snowflakes with my mom and dad. The next few years of memories were of doing any and every kind of art project I could talk my mom into letting me do. My favorite were the days I would scrapbook with my mom using her neat looking scissors to trim the pictures for my baby book. When I was ten years old, Mom and I found a lady's name in the phone book. She taught oil painting classes. Her name was Linda. I started taking her classes shortly after and have continued for the last seven years.
My first oil painting was a fluffy, baby tiger. One day, it fell off of the wall. We discovered a small tear in it. I decided to paint a colorful bird while the tear was being repaired. I completed this painting just in time to enter it in an art show, in my home town, at an old fashioned house preserved for historical purposes. I received an honorable mention, which I was tickled pink about receiving! I went on to paint all kinds of picture including a temple, lots of sunsets, horses, and many more. More recently are flowers which are my favorite, due to the fact that I can make them look amazing with little effort.
I decided a few months ago that I had enough paintings to create my very own art show. The first step was to create a website and display my paintings there. Also I painted a rather large and beautiful picture of a rose for my mom in trade for her assistance with designing my website. The rose now sits above our couch gracing our living room with its gentle beauty. The website on the other hand, took a bit longer and was completed only last month.
I gathered paintings from all over the state of Utah and even had one brought from my aunt's house in Canada. I worked tirelessly to get all of the paintings ready for people to view. I sent out and emailed about two hundred and thirty invitations to all of my friends and their families to let them know about my exciting event. My teacher lent me easels for many of my paintings to rest on. My mom, dad, and siblings rearranged the newly repainted basement of my dad's house to hold the plethora of paintings that were
to be displayed.
The night of the event finally arrived with everything in its place. People showed up on and off over the course of the evening mingling, talking and deciding which was their favorite painting. I received two requests for commissions and gladly accepted! We ate goodies that I had prepared the day before. I shared with many of the viewers my zest and drive for creating art in the form of painting. I was surprised with the fact that more people liked my painting of a cliff diver in the sunset and of a horse rearing its front legs. They were both very simple paintings and are not my favorites. Many people asked me which paintings were my favorite, to which my response was the sunset on Utah Lake and two red flower petals that I titled “Sisters”. All in all it was a great success! I loved all of the attention that received that night and felt so grateful that people came to support me with one of my biggest passions!
I have begun looking toward the future and to plan on attending college art classes. My goal is to learn many different and exciting ways to express art such as sculpting, drawing and other unique fine art techniques. My desire is to grow my artwork into a profitable form of income and bring much joy and beauty to the lives of others. I love feeling creative and expressing myself! I plan to experiment with many different art forms and see which ones I enjoy the most. I am excited to see what that will be and when I discover it, I will most likely do it for many years to come! My legacy is to leave this planet more beautiful through my art than it was when I entered it and to bless thousands of people lives with my entrancing art.
